I’m not a fan of gin, I think it tastes like medicine but I really like the fancy gins you can get with shimmer or in different colours and flavours. I spent a long time looking for a delicious flavour vodka liqueur but couldn’t find anything I liked so I decided to create my own unicorn distillery at home and got to work developing Unicorn Vodka!
Unicorn Vodka would make a lovely gift, especially at Christmas (you don’t need to call it unicorn vodka if you would rather name it something else). You could even recreate the famous snow globe gin with your unicorn vodka. This is simple to do. You just need to paint a bottle with a stencil and some white paint and then add an LED coaster light to the bottom. (You can get all these from Amazon and they usually have free standard shipping). Finish off by adding a label and voilà, a beautiful and delicious gift. Or a fancy treat for yourself.
I plan to experiment and see if I can create a rainbow unicorn vodka, a color-changing vodka or perhaps even a dinosaur-themed creation with a little drop of citrus to go with the green colouring I have in mind.
Here is my Unicorn Vodka recipe.

Ingredients
- 500g raspberries
- 250g white caster sugar
- 1tbsp vanilla extract
- 1-2tbsp edible shimmer
- 1l vodka
Equipment
- 1.5l sterilised jar
- Scales
- Tbsp measure
- Jug or funnel
- Nice bottle
- Strainer
Method
- Tip the raspberries, sugar and vanilla into the sterilised jar.
- Pour half the vodka into the jar. Seal tightly, then give it a shake to evenly distribute the sugar. Open the jar and add the remaining vodka.
- Make sure the jar is sealed and stored in a cool dark place, turning/shaking once a day for the first week. After 2-3 weeks you can strain the vodka.
- Add the fairy dust shimmer to a bottle. Pour the vodka into the bottle. You could pour it into smaller bottles like these to use as gifts. The vodka will keep its pink colour for a few months but will remain drinkable for up to 2 years.
